Garry Rogers Motorsport has teamed with Swedish Polestar racing to prepare a race winning Volvo engine for the Australian V8 Supercar season.
The 5.0 litre V8 unit will power the S60 entries for Garry Rogers Motorsport next season, marking Volvo’s return to Australian Touring Car Racing.
Polestar developed the new engine, with assistance from the same engineering team behind the upcoming Drive-E engines, soon to power road-going Volvo models.
The new race engine is based on Volvo’s B8444S 4.4 litre production V8, and like the Nissan and Erebus Mercedes-Benz entries of this year, the new Volvo unit promises to bring its own unique sound to the series.
Unveiling the engine at the beginning of the final V8 Supercar round for 2013 around the streets of Sydney Olympic Park, Volvo Car Australia boss Matt Braid said the Swedish carmaker had spared no resources in building its new race engine.
